The After Hour Authors is a group of creative individuals with a story to tell - well, many stories to tell actually. We are not just writers either; we are also comprised of illustrators, poets, editors and just plain creative folk.
None of us claim to be professionals in our field, we are merely like souls on our own personal journeys to find a means to express the nagging voices of our intuitive imaginations. We are here to nurture, to help and to motivate each other so that we may reach our publishing goals and make our mark in the literary world.
We are few at present; a tight-knit group of expressionists. Read about us here so that you may understand us. Listed here are the founders of our guild, those of us who have made After Hour Authors what it is today.
Kevin Hare ~ Writing is who I am. I've been at it seriously now for about 6 years and I show no signs of slowing down. There's just too many
ideas in my head waiting for their chance to come alive in story.
I have had some poetry printed and an article or two, and one self-published book, Anderoth's
Dragon . It may not make the New York Times best seller list but those who have read it enjoyed it and some have asked about a sequel.
JSQ ~ I've always been a reader, enjoying fantasy from brilliant minds like J.K. Rowling and R. A. Salvatore. But then the stories started to
form in my head. Once I started to write them down, I found my purpose. There are few things that bring me as much pleasure. I can only hope that my
stories create as much joy for my readers as they have created for me.
Although I am not published, I have two stories nearing that stage and ideas for more.
Melanie R. Closs ~ I've been writing stories all my life. As a young girl I had the privilege of winning a spot at the Young Authors Convention.
I was one of the youngest people there. We were taught the basics of writing. Ever since I have written for enjoyment. It was only recently when I joined
the After Hour Authors that I made the decision to get published. I have various poems published, I am currently working on a novel and have plans for a
series of graphic novels.
Shirley Needham ~ I am not your normal author, I have never even written an article or poem. I started going to the Authors group in my sisters
place, she had signed up. I liked the group and thought I could influence my grand-son into writing, he has the most wonderful imagination. The group has
homework assignments and I started to do them and found I liked writing. Since we started the store there had been a lot of problems. I thought it would
be a good book. I write in a very matter of fact way, say what I need in the least words I can. I now have learned to put fluff in my writing and have
started a second book fiction this time, from another home work assignment. The group has now created a descriptive monster.
Susan Kostuch ~ I think my desire to be a writer is based on three things. First, I am an avid reader, I always have been. I love the way that
stories can take me to another time and place as well as opening my world to new ideas and beliefs. Second, when I am not reading I am usually
daydreaming, creating storylines to keep me entertained. And third, I love words. I love reading them, writing them and speaking them. I like the way
they look on the page, sound when spoken and feel when speaking; I like how you can put them together like a puzzle and create a beautiful picture. When
faced with a desire to change my career I decided to really think about what I wanted to be when I grew up and what I really love at this point in my life.
So here I am trying my hand at being a writer and I hope that I will be successful.
To me, success is having someone see the world a bit differently from reading my story...well that, and outselling J.K. Rowling!!
Wanda Qually ~ "The decisions you make are the consequences you live with." I write about real life as I observe it. The good, the dark and the
ugliness of life as it is created, makes truth more potent than fiction. Words have the power to enlighten, to educate and also to devastate. Some learn
through experience and others learn through witnessing.
I write anecdotes, essays, and children's stories, and am currently collecting fodder for an epic love story and a mystery thriller.
Nadine Gordon ~ I have always been fascinated by the power of words to convey a message.
When I was young, my mother used to read us stories some of which were her own. I loved those stories. As soon as I was able to read and write on my
own, I began to share stories with my siblings. When I wasn't reading aloud, I was reading silently. Books and stories had the ability to magically
transport me across time and space into lands unknown with interesting characters and situations which never ceased to enliven my imagination. Not
surprisingly, I became a bookworm.
